Week 4: Assignment Government

Filed under: Uncategorized — ashnr07 at 2:44 pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2006

Conservative Democrat

Based on your answers to the questionnaire, you most closely resemble survey respondents within the Conservative Democrat typology group. This does not mean that you necessarily fit every group characteristic or agree with the group on all issues.

Conservative Democrats represent 14 percent of the American public, and 15 percent of registered voters.

Basic Description
Conservative Democrats’ religious orientation and conservative views on many social and political issues set this group apart from the other Democratic-leaning groups, Liberals and Disadvantaged Democrats. Conservative Democrats’ views are moderate with respect to key policy issues such as foreign policy, regulation of the environment and the role of government in providing a social safety net. Their neutrality on assistance to the poor is linked, at least in part, to their belief in personal responsibility.

Defining Values
Less extreme on moral beliefs than core Republican groups, but most oppose gay marriage and the acceptance of homosexuality, and support a more active role for government in protecting morality. No more conservative than the national average on other social issues such as abortion and stem-cell research. Most oppose the war in Iraq, but views of America’s overall foreign policy are mixed and they are less opposed to Bush’s assertive stance than are other Democratic groups.

Who They Are
Older women and blacks make up a sizeable proportion of this group (27% and 30%, respectively). Somewhat less educated and poorer than the nation overall. Allegiance to the Democratic Party is quite strong (51% describe themselves as “strong” Democrats) but fully 85% describe themselves as either conservative or moderate ideologically.

Lifestyle Notes
46% attend church at least once a week, 44% attend Bible study or prayer group meetings, a third (34%) have a gun in their house.

2004 Election
Bush 14%, Kerry 65%.

Party ID
89% Democrat, 11% Independent/No Preference, 0% Republican,(98% Dem/Lean Dem)

Media Use
Emphasis on traditional providers as main news sources: newspapers (50%) and network TV news (42%).

My reaction after the taken the test and seeing the results was a little shocking because it showed the true meaining of me. Im not willing to agree to anything just because people say it’s right. If i dont see it in my eyes then im not agreeing. I am not a follower. I am a conservative democrat.

The test was very accurate. The percentages were mostly right. I am similar to the Typology group because we all have a basic description of what we are believing in. But, the issues that are important to me is the election media. We wanna know who they are..

Week 3: Assignment#3

Filed under: Uncategorized — ashnr07 at 2:33 pm on Monday, September 18, 2006

The Story is about a young girl name Precious. Precious wants so much going for her self just to impress a boy name Neville Campbell. Precious’s mother Lucille, who knows how Precious feels for Neville tries to stop her from acting so pathetic and to worry about school then some boy who not even paying any attention to you.

Precious strengths were to be happy with Neville. Happiness was all she really wanted. She wasn’t thinking negative about the consequences that could affect her later on she was just thinking about how she was going to have Neville like her and want her as his girlfriend.

“She dreamed of strolling on the sand with a sweet-looking boy, arm in arm and affectionate, the envy of all the boys-less girls out there.”

But the envy of girls that Precious didn’t have was long hair. Forget the thighs, or nice long legs or nice pretty skin. It was hair that she thought her man liked on girls. The long hair that flows as the wind combs threw it. The sparkly water glimpse going threw it as the water run threw it.

“You see those girls? How do they do it? Precious wondered.. Both girls had plentiful hair: hair that lifted in the wind and fanned around the shoulders, hair that caressed their cheeks, tempting boys to touch it.”

Precious’s mom Lucille only wanted her daughter to learn and be educated and not fall behind no boy! Boys cause trouble. She wanted her to find happiness in her self and not after any boy.

“Massa God, please bless my daughter, let her have ambition and sense. And I beg you, Lord, please let her turn out good.

It was for her daughter sake that she didn’t want her to get pregnant.

“Boy trouble, it had to be, for as far as she knew Precious had had no chance to get into baby trouble-yet.”

Precious wasn’t worried about nobody but her. All she was thinking about is how she was going to get some long hair so she went and sinned.

“Precious decided on braids, the least expensive option.”

Lucille did not approve of extensions at all.

“Precious ran in her mom room to wake her up and as she looked she said hmm…Lucille, who did not approve of extensions at all”

“More trouble coming said Lucille”

As precious was getting carried away with her hair, she dozed off and went to sleep but woke up the next morning with trouble. Her beautiful braids that Sister Pauline had put in had came out her hair. They were all scattered over her bed. She weeped and weeped over and then ran in her mom’s room showing her new bald look.

“Oh my God! Oh my God! Precious scream as more of her extensions were coming out.”

“You see where vanity leads you? Lucille muttered.”

Precious went from, extensions and potions to have Neville notice her and neither one of them worked because she just wasn’t Neville type.

“Neville was with a white girl”

When Precious hair started growing with Potion Sister Homelia gave her. She began to act new as if she was a stuck and she didn’t know anybody any more. She thought a lot of girls envied her. Even her best friend Lindy.

“She just jealous! Precious told her self.”

Precious thought with her new growing hair she could get Neville because it made her feel good about her self and she just knew Neville liked long haired girls.

Precious was living for Pleasure Happiness. She was only living for the future and to satisfy someone else. Neville who was meaning happiness because he may have payed attention to Precious but he payed more attention to other girls that was his type and meaning. Even though Precious nevered even dared to try and listen to her mom. Her mom Lucille was still trying to help Precious live Engagement happiness. Not just to fit in but to be happy and have an education too.

If I was a counselor I will tell Precious to live her life and not try to live for other people. Do things what makes Precious happy because only Precious can do that. Not her mom, not the boy Neville, and not even the people who tried to help her out. I will tell Precious beauty comes in every one and especially her!

“Precious and her hair”

My strengths and Precious strengths together are similar because we both want to be happy. We don’t have long to live sometimes so we try to do things that’s going to make us satisfied and from being hungry. Meaning from wanting all the time from others ( begging). But the strengths I have that are different from Precious is I know how to make something come to me rather than make me come to it. You have to learn to put your self because only you can control who you are and what you do. You can’t let other people come beside you or even the important people like your family. And it’s always good to listen.

Assignment#4, Writing #3

Wise – to have the capacity of power to stand up for what is true and right.

As long as I can remember. I always was a wise young girl and lady. I always told people what was true and what was right. My daddy always told me to never let nobody take advantage of me or try to peer pressure me into doing anything because wants they start doing that I am down. I thought smart, but there was a time when I was pressured into smoking and I had to wise and move onto a whole different crowd. I have to be wise and think of the courage I got in me. As I always thought even though my dad may not have been there for most of my life, he did show me how to have power when I was younger. I guess you learn from what you grow.

Honesty- To have the ability to let people know you are loyal and you can be trustworthy.

There came a time when I was younger where I had to lie or tell the truth. Of course I lied here and there over petty stuff but when it came down to the real deal I had to be honest. I couldn’t bare lie at the big things because I knew what the consequences would bring me. This one my cousins had stole from the store when I was like 10. My auntie told me to tell the truth and be honest at what they had done no matter how mad they would be at me. So what did I do? I confessed and snitched. Yeah so what I snitched but I knew what was right so it made me feel good and besides I was NOT going to get in trouble with them crazy people! Every since then I always told the truth and been honest about everything because I know lien don’t get you no where.

Faith- Always being able to stand up and not falling down. Don’t give up just believe and keep on believing.

It took me awhile to realize what faith was because as I was growing up I didn’t really have faith when it came to school work because I never believed that I could really manage to anything by myself. I always thought my mom was going to be there through every quiz and test. But as I got older she was there at home managing the house. I had to have the responsibility to do things on my own and she did help me with a couple of important things. After a while, I just gave up. I got on home school and had a teacher name Mr. Minton he helped me out a lot with my faith and gave me a opportunity to choose to be a failure or non failure. I choose to be a non failure. It makes me feel good because here I am now having a GPA as 3.00. Now I can believe in me more thanks to my teacher and that makes me feel proud.

Unconditional Feelings- The feeling of a warm glow inside towards another person.

I use to have this certain type of love for this boy. I always wondered what type of love he had for me? Was it Conditional or Unconditional? I found out it was conditional love. In order for him to love me he wanted me to do things for him, be there in non loving ways for him. I knew his circumstances wasn’t going to be falling in love with me which really hurted me but you got to deal with life situations like that. So I left that relationship alone. I couldnt let that type of relation bring me down because that’s what the relation and he was trying to do. At first I thought I was doing something dumb by leaving him but then I realize im smart to and I got to do what is right. Looking at that stage of life I realize that you learn from your mistakes and you getting smarter at what you learn.

Beauty- A person, place, or thing, etc. that stands out of its surroundings that you really admire or like.

Beauties to me use to be the greatest thing anybody would like to see. I thought beauty could get you anything you want and need. But beauty is only a desire that you see. The only attention beauty bring is half the attention you want. I use to make fun of people who was ugly because I thought they had no chance when deep down inside it was me. I would make a lot of people cry and wouldn’t even know why on earth and I doing that to them. But one day they just got tired of it and figured out why I did it. They knew how I felt about myself and just because you’re pretty to others don’t mean you can see it. I had these sessions I went to after school program about situations like mines. I learned that ugly was in me and it needed to find its way out. After those sessions I felt good about myself and I left people alone because I knew I had to do what was right.

Q1) Go to one of the blogs I’ve listed below, choose a post you find interesting and summarize it in one paragraph.
This is BlogHer – a blog written from a female POV.
===
I wanted to find a political blog that expressed a Red State / conservative perspective, since my own politics are very liberal / progressive. But I had trouble finding one I could really recommend. So here’s a particular post on the RED STATE blog that I found interesting.
===
Math was never my favorite subject, and I tend to think of myself as a rejected stranger on the Planet Math — so I definitely need to read more about math. Let’s try a math teaching blog that could have some ideas for Independent Study: Homeschool Math Blog
===
Culturally, I’ll admit to being pretty ignorant about Islam, so with all the endlessly negative news and opinions about Muslims, I wanted to read a blog from an Islamic point of view. Here’s veiled4allah.
A1) I read the post about Fredrick Douglas. He was telling us to remember who are leaders are that set us free and what they did to try to make the world at peace. He wants us to let all the hatred go even thought as Fredrick Douglas said,’’ Slavery will always remain here. Don’t let nobody bring us down. We got to stand up for the rights that we have.

Q1.) Find a blog that is different from your culture, ethnicity, political point view, etc. Write a one paragraph review of the Blog, and write one paragraph telling about something new you learned.

A1) “Iraq the Model” The war between the U.S.A. and Iraq. People are still wondering if there’s war still and If there is, Is it going to stop? The war to me is stupid because nobody is solving anything. The only thing they are solving is the knives and bullets that are going through innocent people. This war has to stop and hate has to come to an end! Nobody wants to see or hear about anybody deaths.

What I learned about about the tale of two gangs is a lot of men who are in certain tribes in Iraq are all part of Al-Qaeda. A young girl witnessed certain strange behavior that had been going on at a funeral occasion. They were strange religious behavior going on. They weren’t letting anybody come home to their family if they weren’t with their tribe.

 Week 1 Assignment #3
Q1) Using google.com, find some definitions of blog that explain the characteristics of a blog. Is Google a blog? Is YouTube? Is Answers.com? (No, no, and no. But they are three of my favorite websites.) WRITE a half-page explanation of what a blog is. Include particular characteristics that make a blog a blog.
Q2). Using google.com, some other search engine, or your own Internet favorites, find a blog you like and that you would re-visit every week or so. Write a paragraph about it telling what you like about it and be sure to include the URL. (The URL is the “address” of the website. For example, the URL for this site is http://maxlighthouse.edublogs.org/

A1)  Alot of people wonder what a weblog or a blog is? Which is basically the same thing. Alot of people think a blog is a website such as myspace, youtube,or answer.com as,”Mr. Minton said.” But No it’s not nothing like those websites. It is a certain webpage you go to for public consumption (www.bytowninternet.com) for bloggers to reply or talk about personal information.

You’ll keep updating your blog daily so viewers can see what new information you have, any new trends you seen. Pretty soon your blog will be jus like your journal that you share with people over the world.

Alot of people wonder how do you make a blog…Well you have to be on a blogging website first (learnersblog.com/). Read the instructions and then start inserting in the information they need to know (remember never put in personal information such as your name, address, number, etc. You hve a blog now.

If bloggers like your blog they just might come back to it so they can have something to read. You might find a new friend or maybe come by a old one. Make sure your blog is not Rated over G or PG!

A2) I went to this website called Third Age because I couldn’t find any blog. So I decided to go there and type in psychology for my blogs. Many blogs popped up like “Do you like your self?” I wanted to read that blog because a lot of people are very uncomfortable with their selves. They would look in the mirror and tell their self there ugly, fat, dumb, maybe even the craziest person in the world. But to let people know who feel like that you’re all beautiful. Everybody has their own unique way. A person who hair isn’t long doesn’t make them the prettiest person in the world. You rather have her face or she is how I see it because her hair is hiding something. Nobody’s perfect in the world and isn’t meant to be. There are a lot of explanations for everything. Love your self for who you are because something you’re not noticing can be easily taken away.
You can find this blog at http://blog.thirdage.com/?p=706. The website blog is http://blog.thirdage.com/?cat=16.
